This year, as we return to Baltimore, our conference will be bigger and better than ever; continuing to provide you with current market information coupled with opportunities to learn from your peer’s ideas and best practices to help you further develop, grow and succeed. As we move deeper into 2013, our industry will continue to be challenged by a sluggish to spotty economy, persistently low interest rates, and even more regulatory hurdles. Many believe, me included, that there are signs that the insurance market is hardening, but uncertainties remain. On the whole, Program Administrators are optimists and entrepreneurs. Uncertain and changing conditions bring about opportunities and, I am sure as you are reading this, you each have initiatives designed to take advantage of the changing market conditions. Our industry – the program business – is well-positioned to take advantage of these opportunities as they present themselves. We are extremely pleased to welcome Admiral Mike Mullen as this year’s keynote speaker. Following a long and distinguished military career, Admiral Mullen was the 17th Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, making him the principal military advisor to the President, the Secretary of Defense, the National Security Council, and the Homeland Security Council. He will be sharing his perspective on the relationship between national security and the financial health of our nation. One area that I expect to be of great interest to all of our delegates will be a discussion of cyber threats that affect the insurance industry and business in general. You won’t want to miss this. This year’s industry speaker is Seraina Maag, Chief Executive for North America Property and Casualty for XL Group. A dynamic change agent, one of Maag’s first initiatives upon joining XL in early 2010 was to tear down the walls of her corner office on the 21st floor of New York’s World Financial Center. She currently directs seven lines of business in America, Bermuda and Canada and has responsibility for XL’s global Excess Casualty and Surety Divisions. Maag was elected a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2009. I am personally looking forward to hearing her perspective on how the insurance industry can rise to meet the ever-changing demands of our marketplace while attracting a younger, more tech-savvy workforce. The Target Markets Mid Year Meeting remains the premier networking event for Program Administrators, Insurance Companies, and the finest industry Vendors. We’re expecting more than 600 Program Business Professionals at this meeting, including decision makers from our 53 Program Carriers. Be sure you take full advantage of the many networking opportunities. We also have a return of our “town hall†sessions that were so popular at our last mid year meeting. Please be sure to check them out. Finally, we would like to extend a sincere ‘thank you’ to our sponsors, whose generous support enables us to present this year’s meeting and workshops: Zurich, Wilson Elser, York Programs, QBE, Munich Re, Lexington Insurance, Tysers, Hudson Insurance, The Hartford, Oak Street Funding, Scottsdale Insurance, Western Heritage and Breckenridge Insurance Group. I am looking forward to seeing you all in Baltimore. Warm regards, David W. Springer TMPAA President
