Program Business Revenue Topped $53.8 Billion in 2020

The 2021 TMPAA State of Program Business Study is the eighth in a series of surveys that started in 2011. The 2021 report presents 2020 business results. Since the TMPAA did not conduct the survey in 2020 for 2019 results, most of the comparative analysis in this survey report focuses on changes between 2018 and 2020.

The TMPAA released the results of its State of Program Business Study at the 21st Annual Summit in Scottsdale. The survey documents the size of program business and tracks various trends that shape the market. The survey has documented the rapid growth of the program business insurance market. From $17.5 billion in commercial insurance revenue in 2010, program business has grown to $53.8 billion in 2020. It continues to outpace the total property/casualty industry, which grew commercial lines premiums by only 9.33 percent over the same period of time. The study reflects the views of 144 program administrators representing 1,041 programs and 51 insurers representing 1,322 programs.

Follow the links below for more information about this year's study.

October 2021 - SUMMIT EDITION

Important Summit Info

Registration

Early badge and program pick up will take place on Sunday, October 17 from 6-8 p.m. outside on the Northern Sky Terrace. Registration on Monday will open at 8:00 a.m., inside on the lobby level. Program administrators, carriers, and service providers will check in at separate tables. Look for the signs!

NOTE: All attendees will be expected to sign the Safe Summit Document (available on-site) prior to registration.

Where to Meet

1. Red, white, OR blue balloons- To help alleviate congestion under the Target Markets banner, one bunch of red, one bunch of white, and one bunch of blue balloons will be displayed in the registration area. You can indicate which color balloons you would like to meet when corresponding with other attendees.

2. Carrier Meeting Room (available Monday and Tuesday)- This dedicated space for carrier meetings will be set up inside the Trailblazers Ballroom with limited outdoor seating on the Trailblazer Terrace. Carrier logo signs, developed to assist with table identification, will be available inside the room.

3. Networking Lounges- While we have created outdoor networking options for attendees, it will not be sufficient to accommodate everyone. Indoor networking spaces will be larger with the increased physical distance allowing for safer indoor meetings. When choosing to meet in the "Networking Lounge" it will be important to indicate whether outside on the Northen Sky Terrace or in the dedicated areas inside.

 Trade Show

Schedule a time to review the products from exhibiting Association service providers. Meetings with service providers are generally scheduled at their trade show table. The show opens at 11:00am on Monday and remains open until the close of the Tuesday evening networking reception.

General Sessions

Plan to attend the General Sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. We will be providing Association updates and presenting designations before turning the spotlight over to Carla Harris on Tuesday and the Industry panel on Wednesday.

There is no charge for this opportunity, sponsored by Accelerant. A high resolution file will be emailed following the event.

Receptions

The TMPAA Networking Receptions (5-6:30 p.m.) provide the opportunity to develop new business partnerships or connect with individuals with whom you currently work. Please schedule any offsite events after 6:30 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.

TMPAA Charities
Packages from Home

Support our troops by stopping at the table outside the Trade Show. Pack a box for service men and women on active duty around the world.

Name Badges

We made it easy to locate program administrators (white), carriers (yellow), service providers (blue) and member prospects (red) by color coding the name tags. An agenda is also provided on the back so you don't miss a session.

 COVID-19 Testing

The Association has contracted with an organization, Impact Health, to provide voluntary and free COVID-19 testing at the Westin Kierland to assist members if they choose to use this for registration compliance or for any in-meeting testing that may be necessary. Attendees can expect information next week with instructions on how to register to access testing.

Schedule Your Summit Meetings Today

Lloyd's Open House

October 19 | 10:30 a.m.

With travel restrictions preventing most London Markets from participating directly in this year’s Open House, we have developed an event that will provide answers for administrators interested in learning more about program opportunities with Lloyd’s.

Representatives from several syndicates will be in attendance along with program administrators who have had success developing programs in London. The room will be hosted by Rod Smith, Southeast Regional Director and Head of Coverholder Practice and Dawnmarie Black, Northeast Regional Director of Lloyd’s and Head of US Broker Practice, who will also be available to answer questions.

Claims at Lloyd’s

US Head of Claims at Lloyd’s, Carey Bond, will discuss claims handling at Lloyd’s including the current grandfathering/ onboarding process for TPAs, identified at Lloyd’s as DCAs (Delegated Claims Authorities). Carey will also describe impacts of the Lloyd’s Catastrophe Portal and GEO explorer program on the Lloyd’s market using recent events (Hurricane Ida and West Coast wildfires) to demonstrate the usefulness of these two new tools. The role of Head of Claims, Americas is a position brought about by the Future at Lloyd’s. Carey will expand on what that means to the Lloyd’s market in the US.

Unparalleled Access to the London Markets for TMPAA Members

Since most London Market representatives will be unable to attend the Summit, the Tysers team will be working with members to schedule virtual meetings with these markets.

Safe Summit Planning

Registrations for the 21st Annual TMPAA Summit are currently up over 10% from the same time in 2019, which was our largest meeting to date. There has also been significant growth in Carrier, Service Provider and Program Administrator membership in the Association since the beginning of this year.

In order to harness the increased energy in program business with an in-person Summit, we are working closely with the Westin Kierland to design a meeting that allows us to gather in the safest manner possible and where individuals can feel free to take precautions that allow them to feel comfortable attending. Details are posted on the Safe Summit Planning page.

Please remember that the Association is expecting that all attendees be vaccinated or take a COVID test within 48 hours prior to arrival. Per current CDC recommendations, unvaccinated individuals will be expected to wear a mask.

We have recently created outdoor networking space for attendees that will create additional physical distance for the indoor networking areas. More to follow on this soon.

Additional safety protocols are being put in place. Expect to hear more about this soon.

For areas with high concentrations of attendees, you may find signs like this at the Summit:

The TM Team and Advisory Board are focused on creating a meeting that will satisfy a wide range of opinions about COVID safety. We are fortunate enough to be a group where many of us know each other. Accommodating friends, business partners and new members with varying levels of comfort returning to in person meetings will be the key to our success.

February 2021

2021 Mid-Year Meeting

May 3-5 | Tampa, FL

______ Update ______

TMPAA Members and Friends,

As you are all painfully aware, our country’s situation regarding the COVID-19 pandemic changes on a daily basis. The roll out of vaccines, therapeutics, and new variants continue to confound us all.

When making our decision months ago to proceed with an in-person meeting in Tampa this May, we were hoping to be in a much better position to offer a safe and valuable event. There remains, however, some significant questions about our ability to accomplish this.

In order to help you plan ahead, we are writing today to inform you that our decision about the Tampa meeting will be made on or before March 1st. Our intention is to make the meeting work if it can be done safely.

Should we not be able to meet in person, the TMPAA Team is developing a May Networking Week that will allow all members to connect for virtual meetings, much like the October Virtual Summit. Even with an in-person meeting, virtual meetings will be organized to accommodate members who are unable to attend.

Please bear with us as we attempt to accommodate the diverse opinions of our members and deliver the value you expect from membership in the TMPAA. Feel free to contact us with questions.

Thank you and stay safe.
