Target Markets’ Scotto to be succeeded by Abbey as exec director

21 May 2024

Long-serving Target Markets Program Administrators Association (TMPAA) veteran Ray Scotto is transitioning to a new senior executive position, with Gene Abbey succeeding him as the trade body’s executive director, Program Manager can reveal.

The leadership change, which takes effect from 1 June, sees Scotto step down from the executive director role he has held since TMPAA’s formation in 2002.

Alongside Abbey’s elevation to executive director, Sarah Ayars, TMPAA’s group director of operations and marketing, will share the organisation’s management responsibilities.

“The Association continues to grow along with the program space creating challenges and opportunities to meet the evolving needs of our members and provide value for their membership investment,” said Scotto.

“Gene and Sarah are perfectly suited to meet these challenges and will continue to advance this amazing organisation which I will continue to support in a new capacity,” he added.

Abbey is a longstanding TMPAA member, and has close to 30 years of experience in the P&C insurance market.

Prior to joining TMPAA in April last year as the organisation’s director of insurance services and education, Abbey was head of strategy and development of specialty risk services at Gramercy Risk Management, with previous positions at Hanover Programs, AF Group and Meadowbrook.

During his career, he has worked in multi-line commercial coverages and risk management solutions. Much of his time in the insurance industry has been focused on specialty programs, fronting, captives, and alternative risk solutions.

Ayars has been with the TMPAA for 15 years, and prior to her promotion to group director of operations and marketing, served the group as director of marketing communications.

The TMPAA currently comprises over 650 members, including 400 program administrator entities and 90 program markets. They are complemented by various service providers who support the fast-growing programs segment.

TMPAA recently held its Mid-Year Meeting in Tampa, Florida, while the group expects more than 1,500 attendees when it hosts its 24th Annual Summit in Scottsdale, Arizona in October later this year.
