EPIC Unit Launches Site Pollution Program for Cannabis Sector
November 5, 2019 - Greyling Insurance Brokerage and Risk Consulting, a division of EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants, has launched a site pollution liability insurance program for the cannabis industry, EPIC said Tuesday.
Coverage can protect growers, processors and retail dispensaries from claims alleging third-party bodily injury and property damage liability claims, as well as corrective action costs such as investigation/cleanup costs at or from an insured site, the brokerage said in a statement.
The program is designed to provide coverage for losses resulting from pollution/pollutants on, at, under or emanating from an insured location that could be excluded from commercial general liability and umbrella and excess liability policies for the cannabis industry.
Program deductibles start at $5,000 for each pollution incident, and annual policies start at $4,000, the statement said.
Limits are $1 million for each pollution incident, $2 million aggregate, and “higher limits may be available upon request and as the market demands,” Alan Bressler, Greyling senior vice president and environmental practice leader, said in an email.
Program features include automatic additional insured where required by written contract, such as lease of premises; corrective action costs, including those recommended by an environmental professional; coverage for civil fines, penalties or assessments arising out of a pollution condition where allowable by law; terrorism coverage; defense expenses for third-party bodily injury/property damage liability claims and for corrective action costs; and a manuscript cannabis endorsement with broad definition of cannabis products, according to the statement.
It is open to retail and wholesale agents and brokers and available in states where cannabis is legal for recreational and medical use, the statement said.
