Target Topics: Commercial Auto Trends with John Ehinger

Commercial auto remains the most pressured insurance line. Continuing, poor industry underwriting results pose significant challenges for MGAs and program carriers in their effort to secure (re)insurance capacity.

With most insureds now having telematics, it seems that things should be better not worse. Nevertheless, underwriting losses continue despite eye-popping rate increases. What gives?

This episode walks through what separates programs that build capacity from programs that burn it: what active device oversight looks like in practice, why provider quality has become a live compliance issue (made public by the April 2026 60 Minutes chameleon-carrier story), how program administrators can deal with data inconsistency across dozens of providers, and where the plaintiff bar is taking telematics data in discovery.
