January 12, 2015 – Mark Schmidt, Chief Underwriting Officer for Glatfelter Programs and President of Insurance Company Operations, announces a phased-retirement starting Jan. 1, 2015 with a full retirement targeted in 2016. He has been a dedicated and loyal Glatfelter Insurance Group (GIG) associate for more than 40 years.

When Schmidt began his career with GIG in 1973, there were less than 10 associates. Schmidt’s almost unrivaled tenure is exceeded by only two individuals – Art Glatfelter and Lucreta Clark, executive assistant to board chairman. His contribution to the history, culture and success of GIG has been enormous. While GIG will greatly miss Schmidt as the Chief Underwriting Officer and President of Insurance Company Operations, the organization is delighted that he has chosen a phased retirement that will enable a smooth transition.
This transition includes the promotion of two GIG associates. Effective Jan. 1, 2015, Jim Partridge, SVP Operations & Chief Actuary will be promoted to President of Insurance Company Operations and John Solari, Chief Underwriting Officer for GPP will be promoted to President of Glatfelter Underwriting Services and Chief Underwriting Officer for Glatfelter Programs (VFIS, GPP, GHP & GRP). Partridge’s knowledge and expertise in leading the actuarial, product development/management, business systems, compliance, underwriting support and reinsurance operations makes him an excellent fit for President of ICO. He will have an increased role in reinsurance operations, corporate results monitoring and will be leading GIG’s enterprise risk management (ERM) program. Likewise, Solari’s underwriting knowledge, expertise and understanding of the importance of strong market relationships with both our carriers and brokers makes him the obvious choice to succeed Schmidt as President of GUS and Chief Underwriting Officer for Glatfelter Programs. |
