YORK, Pa. – Jan 10, 2017 – Volunteer firefighters battle fires and protect communities. Unfortunately, battling health risks such as cancer, heart attack, stroke and kidney failure becomes a part of the job all too often.

Glatfelter Specialty Benefits (GSB) recognized these risks and developed a Critical Illness Insurance program that offers 24/7 coverage for these volunteers, on and off duty.

While this program is offered to volunteer firefighters throughout the U.S., GSB recently started working with the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) and the Minnesota State Fire Department Association (MSFDA) to raise awareness and broaden access to these critical coverages for their members.  

“Cancer and heart issues continue to take a terrible toll on our first responders,” said Keith Brandstedter, president of GSB. “By working with the NVFC and MSFDA, we can place additional focus on these issues and provide financial benefits to their members when they are truly needed most.”

Critical Illness Insurance provides a one-time lump sum cash benefit payable after a diagnosis and may fill the gaps in Accident and Sickness or workers’ compensation policies.
