June 2014 (Best’s Review) – David Springer stood in the emergency room of the veterinary hospital, listening to the medical procedures his dog would require after being hit by a car. With a few rods and a bone graft, his dog would be as good as new. For $7,500.
Springer looked down at the little faces of his 1-year-old and 3-year-old and knew he had no choice but to spend the money. He then looked around at the waiting room and noticed how many others were willing to make similar choices. “It’s staggering how people are willing to spend money on their pets even if they can’t put food on their table,†he said. “One couple was discussing whether they could pay their rent late so they could get services for their pet.â€Â
After that experience, springer, the president and chief operating officer of nip Group, started noticing animal-related businesses sprouting up to service pet lovers.
“This was around the time of the financial crisis,†he said. “Back then nothing was growing, but pet care services were.â€Â
In that trend, NIP saw an opportunity. thus was the beginning of PetPro, an all-lines insurance program that covers pet professionals ranging from dog walkers to rescue organizations.
