St. Joseph’s University Academy of Risk Management and Insurance Partnership

Beginning this fall, TMPAA Charities will be supporting two students at SJU with an annual scholarship known as the TMPAA Academy of Risk Management Scholars Program.

Each recipient will be majoring in Risk Management and Insurance or Actuarial Science. When possible, preference will be awarded to students who are U.S. Military Veterans or female applicants. Your donations to TMPAA Charities or participation/ sponsorship in the annual Golf Tournament will support this effort.

TMPAA Charities will also continue to support our “Packages from Home” initiative for active U.S. Military personnel and Kiva, providing micro loans in developing countries and the US.


Networking Golf Tournament

 Sunday, October 16 at 1:00pm

Unlike other golf events, pairings in this tournament are made to maximize the networking opportunities between carriers, program administrators and vendors. The tournament is designed for golfers of all skill (or lack thereof) levels. Participants must also be registered to attend the Summit. Plan to arrive early and meet your next program partner!

Apply for a London Learning Experience

Tysers, working with the TMPAA, is proud to sponsor the 4th Annual “Targeting Talent Trophy” which looks to provide a selected individual, from a Program Administrator member of the Association, the opportunity to travel to London for a 10 day educational assignment during the spring of 2017.

The selected applicant will leave London with a comprehensive understanding of how Program Business is transacted in the London market, spending time with the Tysers’ broking team and various Lloyd’s syndicates. There will be a focus on all aspects of transacting Program Business in London from client introduction through placement to accounting and claims.

Human Capital Management

There is an old adage in Management that we should "hire slow and fire fast." However, we often make the mistake of doing the reverse.

Any potential new hire should undergo an effective aptitude and personality test. The former confirms that the prospect has the intelligence to do the job while the latter insures that they are the kind of person that is likely to be successful on the job.

In addition, every prospect should undergo a minimum of three interviews: their direct supervisor, a peer to the supervisor, and the supervisor's boss. Differing perspectives are useful to insure a thorough review prior to making an offer.

Finally, for positions that are key to the organization or involve management skills, it can be helpful to engage an industrial psychologist. A dinner or lunch with the candidate and their spouse - who will need to support them in the job - can be helpful as well.
