The Target Markets Program Administrators Association (TMPAA) and The Institutes Knowledge Group Unveil Innovative Program Business Professional™ (PBP™) designation

[Wilmington, DE – March 2024] — The Target Markets Program Administrators Association (TMPAA), and The Institutes Knowledge Group, the not-for-profit leader in risk management and insurance education, are pleased to announce the launch of the Program Business Professional™ (PBP™) designation. This strategic collaboration between the TMPAA and The Institutes aims to enhance professional development in the insurance program business sector.

The PBP designation, set to replace the TMPAA’s current Certified Programs Leader (CPL) designation, is the result of a comprehensive partnership established between the TMPAA and The Institutes in 2023. This groundbreaking designation will officially launch in May and is poised to set a new standard for excellence in program business expertise.

As the premier Association in the program space, TMPAA brings its extensive industry knowledge and network to this collaboration. Renowned for its expertise in risk management and insurance education, The Institutes Knowledge Group will maintain the program curriculum and deliver the courses.

The PBP encompasses a curated blend of program business-specific content and incorporates courses from The Institutes Designations prestigious CPCU®. This fusion ensures a comprehensive and dynamic learning experience for professionals seeking to advance their careers in program business, while also earning credit towards additional Institutes Designations.

The PBP program will consist of four courses and exams and an ethics requirement. Notably, the PBP courses will also qualify for Continuing Education (CE) credits, further incentivizing professionals to pursue this enriching educational opportunity.

The official unveiling of the PBP designation is scheduled to take place at the TMPAA Mid-Year Meeting on May 14. A presentation at the event will provide a detailed overview of the courses, and a comprehensive understanding of the benefits and requirements associated with the PBP designation.

"We are excited to introduce the Program Business Professional designation in collaboration with The Institutes Knowledge Group. This marks a significant milestone in elevating the standards of excellence within the program business sector," said Gene Abbey, Director of Insurance Education and Services at TMPAA.  "The PBP designation reflects our commitment to providing industry professionals with a cutting-edge and comprehensive educational platform that aligns with the evolving landscape of program business."

Greg Thompson, long time TMPAA Advisory Board Member, program consultant, and “Dean” of Target University had this to say, “I am very proud of the educational product we created 12 years ago for Association members. Target University fulfilled our goal of helping program administrators round out and broaden their specialty insurance expertise with useful business skills and related insurance knowledge. The content produced by our subject matter experts has greatly benefited the 200 individuals that received the CPL designation or that took the courses. The collaboration with The Institutes brings even greater value, including access to CE course credits and the ability to transfer some of the course credits to and from other Institute Designations.”

"Joining forces with TMPAA to develop and launch the Program Business Professional designation underscores our dedication to providing the knowledge and skills needed to excel in program business,” said Adam Carmichael, CPCU, President of The Institutes Knowledge Group. “The newest of The Institutes Designations will not only benefit individual professionals and their organizations, but will also contribute to the growth, innovation, and sustainability of the broader risk management and insurance landscape.”
